The crucial difference is not just that this encounter is unstructured by the dictates of religion or science. It is that, in becoming present to one another through art, Simon and her subjects build a shared symbolic world. The installation takes the architecture of the confessional as a starting point, placing it within new settings like galleries and other public spaces, exploring the boundary between public and private. Sat on either side of a divider, participants are invited to share a memory, thought, experience or secret while I listen and draw. What is spoken or sensed passes through the conversation and into the artwork. The resulting images are intuitive rather than illustrative, drawing on fragments, associations and forms that emerge as the conversation unfolds. Each installation is shaped by the architecture of the site it inhabits. Apart from the fundamentals, the materials, scale and arrangement change from place to place depending on what that specific space requires. The first public installation of Confessions took place at Takeover in Beirut in 2024, followed by BATE in Madrid in 2025 and Harlesden High Street in London in 2026. David Gösta Dawson 02 CARTOGRAPHY COLLAGE The second stage of my process brings together material from different Confessions, connecting the connections and recurring themes that come up across them. During each installation (01),&nbsp;I create a body of drawings and monotypes that I turn into collages. These are made with a mix of ink, charcoal and varous papers; I often work with materials specific to the place where the installation has taken place.&nbsp; Rather than looking at each confession individually, I bring fragments from different conversations together. Layering and rearranging images to find repetitions, overlaps and connections between them.
